Rhetorical and commonplace phrases are always likely to underlie the announcement of a new project or enterprise, and a preface to the very first issue of a new scientific journal is no exception. In these few words, which are intended as a way of presenting Current Physical Chemistry, I shall refrain from advertising all the mirabilia that this new periodical will bring with it. Its main scientific, editorial and commercial features are given in the synthetic and yet comprehensive account which the interested reader will find on the journal's website. May I just say that Bentham Science, the Editorial Board and myself, each in our individual roles and capacities, shall together face the challenge to give credibility and visibility to a new project which enters the crowded international arena of scientific journals. Only readers and authors, including PhD students and established scientists from Universities, Government research agencies and industrial laboratories located worldwide will tell us if we have faced the challenge successfully. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Bentham Science for appointing me as Editor of the journal, and to acknowledge Ms Sarwat Aziz Abbasi and Ms Madiha Zahoor for their enthusiasm, dedication and continual support.
