Abstract

Aligned, dense ZnO nanorod arrays were grown by vapor phase transport and hydrothermal reaction, respectively. The Zn powders were pre-oxidized to form ZnO thin film surfaces, and were employed as templates for the growth of nanostructure arrays. The morphology, crystal structure and elemental analysis of the ZnO nanorod arrays were examined by scanning electron microscopy, x-ray diffraction and energy dispersive x-ray spectroscopy. Photoluminescence measurement showed strong UV emission (380 nm). The growth mechanism was discussed.
