Dithienopyrrole-based Organic Electroactive Materials and Their Photovoltaic Aspects
Authors: Renata Rybakiewicz, Łukasz Skórka and Roman Gańczarczyk4H-dithieno[3,2-b:2',3'-d]pyrrole has recently become a useful building block in the synthesis of donor-acceptor molecules with practical application in various organic technologies. The DTP molecule itself consists of a pyrrole ring with two fused thiophenes providing an alternative for the related dithieno[3,2-b:2′,3′-d]thiophene. Most notably, the significance of DTP-based low- and high-molecular weight species has increased in recent years since, upon proper processing, they allow to improve the performance of many fields of organic electronics. This review is a trial of a brief report on recent advances in modern DTP chemistry with examples of their applications, mostly in the area of organic photovoltaics. The scope of this manuscript was to present the structure-property relationships that had been found together with the development of DTP-based materials.

From Allenes to Spirobifluorenes: On the Way to Device-compatible Chiroptical Systems

Dependence of chiroptical response on molecular conformation typically leads to low chiroptical intensities of chiral systems that feature several conformations in solution. In this respect, allenes were employed for the preparation of open and cyclic oligomers as well as molecular cages, presenting remarkable chiroptical responses in solution. Their molecular chirality was also transferred to metal surfaces, yet photoisomerization of allenes limited their further exploration. In search of a more robust chiral axis, theoretical and experimental studies confirmed that spirobifluorenes could give rise to stable systems with tailored optical and chiroptical properties. Additionally, incorporating a conformational lock into spirobifluorene cyclic architectures served as an efficient strategy towards the generation of distinct helical molecular orbitals. This review article outlines our results on developing device-compatible chiroptical systems through axially chiral allenes and spirobifluorenes. The contribution from other research groups is presented briefly.

A Comprehensive Appraisal of Chalcones and Their Heterocyclic Analogs as Antimicrobial Agents
Authors: Riddhi Salotra and Divya UtrejaOwing to the growing demand for compelling antimicrobial agents, chalcones and their heterocyclic derivatives have engrossed prodigious attention of medicinal chemists as an effective clinical template for the synthesis of such agents on account of their structural diversity and molecular flexibility. Chalcones are considered as a fortunate scaffold in the field of both synthetic as well as natural product chemistry. They are reflected as a remarkable section of logically occurring pharmacophores that possess a comprehensive scale of biological activities, such as anti-cancer, anti-malarial, anti-viral and anti-inflammatory, rendering them with a high degree of assortment and noble therapeutic profile. They act as a crucial intermediate for the synthesis of novel heterocyclic skeletons holding biodynamic behavior. This review emphasizes on different aspects of chalcones including their natural sources, recent synthetic methodologies and evaluation of their anti-microbial potential. It is expected as a persuasive compilation on chalcones that may benefit the experts to design potent and less toxic chalcone referents as medicinal agents.

Overview: Enzyme-catalyzed Enantioselective Biotransformation of Chiral Active Compounds Used in Hypertension Treatment

MarszałłEnzymatic kinetic resolution is one of the methods which allows for the synthesis of enantiomerically pure various active pharmaceutical ingredients. In contrast to chemical routes, enzymatic reactions have characteristics, including mild reaction conditions, a few byproducts, and relatively high activity of the used enzymes. β-adrenolytic drugs are widely used in the treatment of hypertension and cardiovascular disorders. Due to the fact that β- blockers possess an asymmetric carbon atom in their structure, they are presented in two enantiomeric forms. It was reported by many studies that only the (S)-enantiomers of these drugs possess the desired therapeutic effect, whereas the administration of the racemate may cause dangerous side effects, such as bronchoconstriction or diabetes. Nevertheless, β- blockers are still commercially available drugs mainly used in medicine as racemates, whereas there are several methods that are widely used in order to obtain enantiomerically pure compounds.

Cyclocondensation of Sodium Azide with Methyl N(N),N'-di(tri)substituted Carbamimidothioate : A New Dimension for the Synthesis of 1,5-disubstituted Tetrazoles and Their Cytotoxicity against Human Breast Cancer Cells

Rangappa and BasappaSynthesis of 1,5-disubstituted tetrazoles by the cyclization of sodium azide with N(N),N'-di(tri)substituted carbamimidothioate is reported. Tetrazoles are obtained in good to excellent yield in the absence of a catalyst. All the compounds were characterized by NMR and HRMS analysis. Single crystal X-ray diffraction data of 1-(4-chlorophenyl)-4-(5-phenyl- 1H-tetrazol-1-yl)piperazine 5g is also provided. Further, these disubstituted tetrazoles were tested against the proliferation of human breast cancer cells (MCF-7), which identified 5e as a lead compound. Finally, we have shown in silico that these compounds may interact with the ligand binding domain of estrogen receptor α (ERα), that expresses at high amount in MCF-7 cells.
