Exceptionally Selective Catalytic Hydrogenation of Alkene with Pinacolborane

The catalytic hydrogenation of model alkene – cyclohexene with the use of pinacolborane is reported along with the characterization of various side products. The non-standard hydrogenation product was obtained in high yield and purity under very mild reaction conditions with the use of iridium catalyst. The exceptionally high selectivity of the hydrogenation process is described for the first time in literature.
