Biofeedback

Biofeedback is the process of learning to influence involuntary body processes in order to receive physiological data from an electronic device that continuously monitors specific physiological parameters. It is a method of assessing how people react to physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual stresses in their lives. Stressed-out bodies are more prone to physical discomfort and even illness. When the body receives new information about its status, it responds by making healthy adjustments to reduce stress and tension. Biofeedback relies on electrical measurements taken from the front of the body (frontal cortex). When this information is presented to the patient, he attempts to consciously change their internal reactions in order to change the electrical results. The chapter discusses biofeedback technology and its applications in psychology and other treatments.
