Integrating Formal UML Designs and HCI Patterns with Spiral SDLC in DroLIGHT Implementation
Authors: Zeeshan Ahmed, Charlotte Helfrich-Forster and Thomas DandekarDesign engineering of an embedded system is a lot more complex and with greater security risk than a desktop and web application, as it involves several electronic components, micro controllers, external PCB boards and miscellaneous advanced devices, to be attached, used and properly communicated. Today, embedded systems are widely used for miscellaneous purposes in different fields of life, the goal of this research is to develop a new domain specific real time solution for the fields of Neurobiology and Photobiology. We propose a new embedded and multithreading based system i.e. DroLIGHT, proficient in systematizing a noncommercial special purpose hardware capable of producing lights of different brightness and wavelength that can be used to study light-evoked behavior of animals, here especially that of the fruit fly Drosophila melanogaster. The aim of this paper is to discuss initial DroLIGHT implementation, following spiral software development life cycle and integrating a formal unified modelling language to scheme from different perspectives e.g. use case, design and implementation views. We present the designed graphical user interface incorporating human computer interaction guidelines, principles and patterns e.g. window per task, direct manipulation, conversational text, ephemeral feedback and step-by-step instructions. We highlight the programming details, available features, hardware components and the basic deployment procedure of the DroLIGHT. Moreover the paper discusses a few of the patents relevant to UML Designs and HCI Patterns.

Recent Patents to Support IS/IT Priorities Planning and Management
More LessAlignment between Information Systems/ Technology (IS/IT) and a company's business strategies has been widely discussed in the literature and remains a priority issue for the areas of business and technology. The issue involves questions of Information System Planning, Information Technology Governance, Investment in Technology and the important decisions taken in this context. Several studies and methodologies have been developed in recent decades to facilitate the strategic use of Information Systems and Technologies. Patents reviewed in this paper suggest inventions that attempt to support the management of IS/ IT or have methods that can be used to support different phases in this alignment process.

Automation Testing Software that Aid in Efficiency Increase of Regression Process
Authors: Alok N. Bhatt, M. Rajasekhara Babu and Anuja J. BhattAccuracy of any software release to the market depends on how efficiently it has been debugged. Debugging is a systematic procedure, used to identify and figure out the cause of defects or any anomaly that the software has and make the software behave as expected. The issues generated by the customer of any company are logged into a database, wherein issues are picked up selected, solved and reverted back to the customers. After solving an issue, it may happen that the issue affects other components which results into a greater number of bugs. The resultant issues are called regression issues. The objective of this paper is to propose and implement a client-server, object-oriented, multiple plat form supporting frame work called RATS Framework which automates the process of regression and thereby helps debug engineers to solve time-consuming regression issues at a faster rate. It automates the process with the help of web-scrapping algorithm (W-S-A) that includes HTML/XML parsing to extract the needed content in the form of GUI-Web Objects, than using Network-Binary Search Algorithm (N/W-BS-A) and Change Finder Algorithm, a variant of Binary Search method, RATS finds out the nearest pass/fail driver build and change in the driver build that cause the new defect in the driver respectively. Because the RATS Framework does this at runtime, client-server approach has to be followed making use of Remote Identification and Installation-Algorithm. Hence RATS framework is a cost effective and time efficient approach for regression issues. The present article has the discussion of few of the patents relevant to automation testing software.

Patented Applications of Differential Evolution in Microwave and Communication Engineering
More LessDifferential Evolution (DE) is a population-based stochastic global optimization technique proposed by Storn and Price in the middle '90s. Its major advantages are the simplicity, robustness and convergence speed. These characteristics have made differential evolution method popular in diverse areas of science and engineering. This paper provides an overview of state-of-the-art research related to the application of DE algorithms in microwave and communication engineering focusing on methods and techniques in recent patent literature. A theoretical analysis and description of the classical differential evolution algorithm and its most popular variants are also provided. A discussion of future research directions in the area completes the study. This work fills a gap in academic literature and provides to researchers and professional engineers useful information about patented applications of differential evolution. Moreover, it exhibits the potential of evolutionary optimization methods in the solution of real-world problems with immediate relevance and impact on industry.

A Review of Recent Patents for Quality Assessment of Multimedia Communications by Digital Watermarking
Authors: Francesco Benedetto and Gaetano GiuntaMultimedia communication has gained an increasing interest in the last decade. The design of services and distributed multimedia applications imposes a number of Quality of Service (QoS) requirements. In particular, the processing and delivery of multimedia content are not independent and their interaction has a major impact on the QoS aspects. Recently, tracing watermarking has been introduced as a blind method for evaluating the QoS of multimedia communications. This paper aims at presenting a review of recent patents, and state of art solutions as well, in the field of QoS assessment of multimedia communication by tracing watermarking. Finally, a discussion pointing out the current and future developments in this area summarizes the remarkable points of this work.

A Survey of Recent Patents on Spectrum Sensing for Cognitive Radios
Authors: Elena Guzzon, Francesco Benedetto and Gaetano GiuntaCognitive Radio (CR) has been recently proposed as a possible solution to the problem of spectrum scarcity in wireless systems. In a cognitive radio network the (unlicensed) secondary users can access the unused frequency bands assigned to (licensed) primary users, on a non-interfering basis. Spectrum sensing is the fundamental functionality of CR systems that allows secondary users to autonomously identify the unused frequency bands that can be safely exploited for cognitive communications. This paper presents a review of the state of the art solutions and recent patents in the field of spectrum sensing for cognitive radio networks. A comparison between different strategies is carried out to evidence both the advantages and drawbacks of each method.

Recent Patents on Adjoint Method-based Real-time Dynamic Water Injection Optimization
Authors: Pang Jin, Lei Guanglun, Liu Hong, Zhang Xu and Li HonglianConventional fixed allocation production and allocation injection method has the defects of uneven water flooding, injection-production loss of constant, which can affect water flooding development efficiency. Therefore, we put forward a real-time dynamic optimization water injection method for the different development time and different injection wells with different injection allocation systems. This method converts the optimization of the system into mathematical equations, focuses on discussing objective function gradient algorithm. The implementation process of the adjoint method calculation gradient is proposed. Gradient calculation and the detailed steps of real-time dynamic optimization water injection are also offered. Finally, an “Lrdquo; shaped fault block oil reservoir conducted the simulation validation. The results show that the use of the adjoint method real-time dynamic optimization approach for injection method is better than the conventional fixed water injection allocation approach, which can better improve oil displacement efficiency and provide important technical support for the formulation of oil field water injection program patent.
