Abstract

This work presents analytical approaches patent, used to find the dimension of the input terminals in a data LAN, with a single server, connected to an exponential channel with transmission capacity of Cbps. The arrivals are poissonian distributed. The two analytical approaches consider the channel transmission capacity, using M/M/1/N queue, infinite and finite buffer, in order to find the number of input terminals in both cases. Results showed that the number of input terminals can be reduced approximately by half for finite buffer, when compared with infinite buffers, and channel rates of 64 kbps, 128 kbps and 256 kbps, consequently making an economy of terminals. Measures of time are used to show the performance of the analytical approaches patent.
