Abstract

A recently published technique that is based on the body of revolution approach is applied in this paper to investigate the radiation characteristics of a circular loop antenna as a feed element of a small parabolic reflector. The study shows that, a small parabolic reflector antenna of diameter 0.3 m that is fed by a resonant circular loop at 2.4 GHz can be designed to give a directivity of 12.75 dB with reflection coefficient less than -28 dB based on 75Ω line. The H- and E-plane HPBWs of the antenna are 29.8º and 37.8º respectively. Moreover, the current density on the surface of the loop feed reflector is computed using the body of revolution approach.
