Manufacturing Techniques and Applications of Multifunctional Metal Matrix Composites, Page 1 of 1
< Previous page | Next page > /docserver/preview/fulltext/9789815039894/chap10-1.gifIn the last few years, the research on composite materials has remarkably been increased. The evolution and specialization of composite materials have widened into metal matrix composites, carbon-reinforced composites, etc. In addition to this, the machining and manufacturing process of composites have evolved tremendously. The processing techniques of the composite materials are classified into two types: liquid and solid type processing techniques. These composite materials achieve the weight reduction of the material without losing the yield stress. As a result, these composite materials are widely used in marine, aerospace, and automobile applications. To increase the fuel efficiency of automobiles, the weight of the vehicles is reduced using these composite materials. Composite materials are the combination of two or more materials to acquire the multifunctional metal matrix composites. Unlike alloys of metals, composite materials are visible, easily detachable, and easy to manufacture. Hence, these composite materials and their manufacturing techniques are emerging fields in the engineering industry. Strength, absorptivity, degrading property, impact, and wear resistance properties are improved in these composite materials to enhance the desired properties in conventional metals and alloys. This article exhibits various methods of the manufacturing process of composite materials and applications of multifunctional metal matrix composites.
