More than half of the worlds population lives in Asia1, and the region is diverse in ethnicity and religion, ranging from India where the major religion is Hinduism to Japan where the major religions are Buddhism and Shinto. The rates of suicide differ in the nations making up Asia, as do the methods used for suicide and trends in the suicide rates over the years. This chapter will briefly review some of the facts pertaining to suicide in Asia and identify similarities and differences from suicide elsewhere in the world.
